Location: Charleston, WV

West Virginia Secretary of State and U.S. Senate nominee Natalie Tennant was joined today by U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan for a rally in support of American Jobs in Wheeling.

Stabenow is known as a leader in the fight to end outsourcing. Stabenow introduced the Bring Jobs Home Act, which ends tax breaks for corporations that ship jobs overseas and rewards companies that create jobs in the U.S. Tennant endorsed Senator Stabenow's Bring Jobs Home Act in Tennant's Jobs and Business Agenda, released in June.

Tennant's opponent, Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, has voted at least six times to protect tax breaks for corporations that ship jobs overseas, and many of those corporations are among her major campaign donors (read here).

"We need Natalie Tennant in the U.S. Senate to join our fight to end tax breaks for corporations that ship jobs overseas. She will put standing up for American workers ahead of protecting billionaires and the big banks," Stabenow said. "I know what it takes to win tough races, I know Natalie Tennant has what it takes to win this Senate seat, and I know she will fight for West Virginia jobs when she gets there."

In her first race for U.S. Senate in 2000, polls showed Stabenow down by a dozen points, just weeks before the election -- which she won.

"It's time to stop rewarding companies that ship jobs overseas and instead invest in small businesses who create jobs here in West Virginia," said Tennant. "West Virginia deserves a Senator who will do what's best for American jobs, not Wall Street profits."

In addition to holding the rally for jobs, Tennant and Stabenow took a tour of Homer Laughlin China, an American-made pottery factory in Newell, WV.

Stabenow is Chair of the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee, and Co-Chair of the Senate Manufacturing Caucus. She also sits on the Finance Committee that oversees taxes and international trade-- where she has championed tax cuts to support American manufacturing and worked to protect American jobs in trade agreements.
